Attention group leaders: we’ve introduced group #hashtags in the Red Rover Directory. This means that new members can join your group anytime, anywhere, just by sending a text message with your group’s hashtag to your Directory’s dedicated phone number.

Don’t have a group? Launch your leadership career by creating a new one—just text the group name to your school’s Directory phone number, and you’ll automatically become the group’s leader. You can start a study group on the fly, organize a fundraiser, or plan a flashmob, Improv Everywhere-style.

When you use your group’s hashtag to tag web posts that are linked to the Red Rover Directory, anyone in your network can use it to search for group-related content or people. When you use your hashtag, it’s easy for people to find out what your group is all about.

A hashtag is a unique group of letters or numbers following the pound symbol that identifies your group and group-related activity in the Red Rover Directory. To choose or change your group’s hashtag:

  1. Go to the group’s page in Red Rover, and click on the “Info” tab
  2. Click on the words “Hash Tag” and enter the new hashtag
  3. Save your changes

Tip: Choose something short, easy to remember, and without spaces.

Now that you’ve chosen your hashtag, use it to tag group-related blog posts and twitter updates, making it easier to find your group’s activity. We’ve even created flyers that you can hand out or post to publicize your group and drive membership. And tell people about it—when you meet someone who’s interested in your group, they can sign up then and there, with your hashtag and the directory number.
