Noticing Types of Encouragement for Success in Your Environment

“When I get older I want to be an astronaut.”

When we were younger, our main source of support rested on our parents telling us that if we really wanted to be an astronaut we could achieve that goal.  As we got older, not only did our goal for our future career change and become clearer, but we also experienced different styles of support systems.  Types of encouragement and support systems can be found not only within your family members or friends but also at your school or work place as well.

My internship, for example, has really shown me support through the different individuals that are involved in the Swift Kick organization.  This support is extremely important to me because not only am I in graduate school, but because I do my work through online office hours.

Some SHOUT OUTS for some AMAZING people:

Tom

Tom: Thanks for always having so much positive energy for every 10:10 meeting, weekly meeting, and 1-1.  You are incredibly busy and  your ability to always find a positive outlook, while having tons of energy, inspires me to have a positive outlook on my work and school life.

Melissa

Melissa: your drive and passion to jump right into new things is amazing!  Your passion for what you do helps to remind me not to be afraid to try new things, in my ever changing life of a graduate student.

Jay

Jay: Thanks for helping me to learn different aspects of technology through projects we have worked on together.  Your ability to put energy into the project and helping me to understand has been amazing and greatly appreciated.

Sabina

Sabina: Thanks for always being so patient with me and answering my millions of questions to help me understand different projects that I am assigned.  Your ability to have fun while getting tons of work done has also reminded me to love what I do.  This is going to be extremely important when I start job searching next year, so thank you for reminding me that I should love what ever career path I choose.

As you can see the individuals in my work support system encourage me in different, yet equally important ways.

So, think about the individuals you are surrounded by in your school or work environments.  In what ways do they encourage or inspire you?

  • Do not just think about this, but write down the ways in which these individuals encourage or inspire you.
  • Keep what you write down as reminder for yourself
  • Also use what you wrote to thank the individuals that have encouraged or inspired you in different aspects of your life.

thank you
