RA Appreciation week: An Advisor’s Perspective

April 10th – 14th was RA Appreciation week at Cedar Crest College.

During my undergrad, I was always on one side of appreciation week. Now, as a Hall Director, I had the opportunity to see what it was like on the other side.

I have always been a giving person. With RA Appreciation week, I had the opportunity to give my RA’s fun notes, gifts, and appreciation all week. Here are some ideas of how to appreciate your RAs:

1. Place Door Decs that that say “you are amazing! thank you for EVERYTHING you do!”

2. Send an email to all residents on campus notifying them that it is RA appreciation week. Encourage them to do something nice for their RA. This could be a simple thank you or a card on their door.

3. Ask the president of the university to send a Thank You email appreciating what the RA position is and what they do.

(This was our Staff meeting day)

1. Make a goody bag that has different items in it with for meetings.

2. Create a Facebook post and tag all of your RAs to show how much you appreciate them.

1. Make homemade cookies and place them in each RA mailbox. Attach a note with a fun saying, or something personal.

2. Make a Facebook post to each RA’s wall.

3. Decorate your RAs’ door overnight.

1. Get Dunkin Donuts for the staff. Place it where everyone can grab one, along with a cup of coffee.

2. Send a personalized e-card to each RA.

It is so important to show our RAs how much we appreciate their work.

Being an RA is not always fun and games. It can get difficult at times. Without RAs, our  buildings that house the residents wouldn’t have someone looking out for them. Students wouldn’t have someone to go to when there is a problem, need a shoulder to cry on, or someone to share a laugh or hug with. Our RAs are so important to our community, they deserve to have a week of appreciation.

Until next time, have a great day!
