Have You Ever Handed a Thank You Card to a Stranger?

“A simple THANK YOU has magic, it changes moods, opens doors, and warms cold hearts” – Unknown

This quote is the absolute truth. When walking around my campus, I realized that people do a lot of things without ever receiving a simple thank you. They could be holding a door open, picking up someone else’s garbage, giving 50 cents to someone in need for their coffee, the list goes on and on. But, the thing that gets me is that there are people out there that never say thank you. Two simple words. Thank and You. These words can go a long way and make someone’s day 100 times better.

About a year and a half ago, I started writing fun Thank You cards. Nothing specific, just th
e words thank you on the outside and a fun note on the inside. I was inspired to write these notes, and give them to strangers, from one of Tom’s Dance Floor Theory presentations I saw. We were told that a small act of kindness can take you miles. These cards were my way of saying thank you to the world for everything you do.

Eventually, I started handing out these cards randomly around campus and throughout the town. When I gave the card to an individual, they looked confused. One lady said, “Why on earth are you giving me this card. You must be mistaken.” I replied, “No ma’am, this is for you for helping me find the cough medicine I needed. It’s just a simple thank you.” Not the confusion in her eyes, but the smile on her face, is what I look forward to seeing every time. I love thanking people that don’t expect it, but deserve it.

My challenge to you:

Go out and make, or purchase, a small pack of Thank you cards. On the inside of the card, write, “thank you for being an awesome human and making the world a better place” That’s it. Then sign it as, “Love, a stranger.”

I’m challenging you to spread thanks around your campus and see how many people smile.

Until next time, have a great day!
