Try Not to Cry – Kevin’s Swift Kick Internship Reflection

These past 6 months have gone by way too fast! Nonetheless, working with an amazing team, making new friends, and developing a new connection with folks were all worthwhile. During my internship experience, I was challenged in every way possible on a constant basis. There was never a dull moment while being a part of this team, and they definitely provided me with plenty of memories that I will always cherish.

This internship was an interesting experience since I was a virtual intern; everyone was in New York while I was working from Portland, OR. However, although I was 2,900 miles away from everyone, they still put in countless efforts to make sure I forgot about the distance.

To Kate, thank you for the level of creativity and positivity you brought to the team. I honestly don’t understand where half of your ideas came from, but each time you had one, it was a great one. I’m glad I was able to collaborate with you on the Random Acts of Kindness project. We came in as interns and are now leaving as friends.

To Jay, thank you for further exposing me to the world of website development! I will never forget how excited I was when you taught me how to make a coupon code, haha! Thank you for your patience, your willingness to teach, and your advice on how to enjoy every moment of your life.

To Sabina, continue to remain the most random person I have ever met in my life! You have so much pizazz, energy, and character that was well-appreciated by the team and I. You’re a great friend and people like you are the ones that motivate me to not stop chasing my dreams. You are the kind of person that brightens up a room when you enter it, and you are always finding ways to positively impact another person’s life. For that, I thank you.

Last, but not least, to Tom, thank you for being a great mentor, boss, and friend. From helping create the eBooks for the Student Affairs Collective to overseeing the Student Affairs Collective newsletter, I thank you for giving me opportunities to learn new skills! I appreciate all the advice you have given me when I went to you with “life’s questions” and I commend you for not being afraid to tell me if you didn’t have the answer. I can’t wait to see what else you accomplish in the future and when I achieve another goal on my list, don’t forget that you had something to do with it. Thank you for the love, support, and friendship.

Swift Kick, it’s been real!

Note from Sabina- Kevin, this post is so wonderful to read! I am glad you had such a positive experience. Thank you for your hard work and dedication. We all appreciated how you “raised the tide” every day, always asking who you could support. Your can-do attitude and willingness to laugh and have fun while working made you a perfect fit on the team! We know you’re going to go places, ahem, future college president. 🙂
