Tangible Team Rally Points
A football team practices set plays over and over again in preparation for the upcoming game. An army works out like crazy in preparation for the battle. Avon Breast Cancer Walk volunteers prep months ahead of time in preparation for their once-a-year walk. Whether a game, a battle, or a walk, they each provide the […]
Old Guard Looking Down On Leadership
I recently took on two leadership positions within the NY Entrepreneurs’ Organization. For me, it was a no-brainer to step up to a leadership position as I’ve learned multiple times in the past that the more involved I am in something, the more I learn and grow. It was interesting, however, to listen to the […]
Engagement Based Leadership
Most student club advisors will tell you that club engagement goes through waves; some years are rockstars and others are duds. Almost every club starts the year with aspirations of rockstardom, but within a couple weeks, the excitement and motivation of the leadership team fades, and thus, the entire club activity withers. In pondering this […]
Red Rover Training At NMSU [IMAGE]
Last week I spent two days at New Mexico State University training their student leaders and staff on the launch of Red Rover as their new campus directory. Holly Rae Bemis-Schurtz (pictured below) from the Student Success office hosted me. Beyond making me feel extremely welcomed by suggesting the best guacamole and salsa in town (Andele), Holly’s championing of Red Rover ahead of time has made for an already successful launch. Here’s to a great year working together! Hostess extraordinaire, Holly! Airplane breakfast of champions 1st round of student leaders – left side of room. 1st round of student leaders…

7 Steps to Awesome: The Tech of a Leadership Conference
I promised the good student affairs folk of the Penn State system that I would write up a draft outline of a tech plan for a state wide student leadership event. I delayed a bit, so that we could finish up this new sachat platform – I think it’s an important example of the goal. […]
It Will Be Amazing, If People Use It . . .
I got a very straightforward question on Facebook today from a staff person at a very large school: About your software: do you have evidence that students will use it? How do you suggest schools get students to do that? (Just wondering if students would see this as one more “hoop” to jump through and […]
The Application of Dance Floor Theory™ (Green Bay!)
One of my last presentations on the latest tour was at Wisconsin Green Bay. It was three hours or so, DFT 1, 2, and some technology blended in from the Secrets Behind Myspace and Facebook**. A student came up afterwards and said that she had been discussing the day at their table and that they […]
RR Function: Student Leader Communication
Empowering student leaders requires communication – Red Rover provides the ability to focus communication to those that have opted in (reducing SPAM) and tools to increase the efficacy of communication through multiple channels. How It Works 1. From their group page, student leaders (and advisors if they like) have at least three different ways to […]
