By design, we move fast at Swift Kick. Our staff is small with 2 full-time employees (Kevin and Me), 1 part-time (Emma**), and a team of ad-hoc consultants (designer, programmer, accountant, etc.)
Kevin and I are always impressed when we look back 6 months and see our progress. A major advantage we have is an endless supply of ideas. The challenge for us is to keep focused like a laser on each idea and not get distracted by the new.
We added an “Our Project List” section to the side rail of this blog in an attempt to help keep our focus and to inform the SK community what are our current projects.
The idea to do this came from reading “The Art of the Start“* by Guy Kawasaki. Guy talks about how in your office it’s uber important to post the company milestones for everyone to see as a reminder since 80% of what you do throughout the day should relate to those milestones.
Since we purposefully don’t have a physical office (Kevin’s in NY, I’m in Chicago, Emma in Houston and our consultants are…umm somewhere) and almost all our work is done via the web and we store all of our files on the cloud. We do this with software similar to FilecenterDMS.com and store it on their servers so anyone can access this from any location – this is our adaptation of Guy’s idea in our virtual office.
People are surprised when we say we don’t have a physical office. Although more and more businesses are transitioning to working at home, it’s still something that people are shocked by! A lot of companies like having a physical office to have the prestige of an address, which looks good and attracts clients. Fortunately, it is now so easy to obtain a virtual office address to keep your companies professionalism. It’s a no brainer to me; working from home means you save on the commute, save on rent for the office, and plenty more benefits (plus, it’s pretty much impossible for us with all of us living so far apart).
Here’s to another 6 months of great growth!
