#FreeHugs Takes on the Government

After Tom, founder of Swift Kick, did his keynote at the ASGA conference on October 3rd, he received an email that made all of us here at Swift Kick beam with pride.

Jereme Badger sent the above vine in the email, as well as this article, stating that the group of friends had taken Tom’s #FreeHugs suggestion and went to Capitol Hill.

The result was joy for the politicians, Democrat or Republican alike.

Republican rep Tim Griffith said, ““I’m gonna hug my wife — hopefully soon.”  Democrat Rep Xavier Beccerra said,“You guys gotta come here more often.”

That’s why we love Free Hugs. They are a language everyone can speak. Whether or not each politician took a hug, they saw something out of the ordinary in the chaos that is government work, especially so soon after the shooting incident. The Free Huggers reminded them what it is like to connect with someone on a personal level, stranger or not. These students reminded them what life is really about: making each other have better lives, at the most basic level.

Jereme and friends, we are SO PROUD of you, over here at Swift Kick, and we are honored and humbled by your awesome work. Keep Huggin!

Inspired? Pledge hugs for International Student #FreeHugs Day on November 7th!
