Advice for 20 Year Olds from Strangers in Union Square

Advice for 20 Year Olds from Strangers in Union Square

At our recent company retreat, Tom, Kelsie, Chris and Sabina went to Union Square and asked random people what advice they would give to their 20 year old self, or other 20 year olds. We even offered them an actual penny for their advice. A couple of people said no. A few said the basic, expected answers, and then some said totally unexpected things. Check it out.

Please note, these are verbatim from the people we spoke to. We do not necessarily agree with all of them. Decide for yourself what you like!

  • Do what you feel; find your passion and go for it!
  • Don’t take people for granted.
  • Don’t mess up school, learn from your mistakes, and still have fun.
  • Shut up and take it all in.
  • Start a mass rebellion against the educational system because students are brainwashed. [Uh what…??]
  • Get out of my face and go get some girls!
  • Things you think are important now aren’t going to be important in 20 years.
  • Travel around as much as you can because you won’t have the time later.
  • Have a baby! [Sabina laughed until she realized the lady was serious. Hey, society tends to say no, but maybe this is right for some people, don’t judge. ]
  • It doesn’t matter what you know because your life is already predetermined.
  • Aim high.
  • Don’t do drugs.
  • Don’t put off what you can do today until tomorrow.
  • Take chances
  • Save money-make money.
  • Limit the amount of advice from others and make judgement calls.
  • Don’t go to law school, too much debt [Unless it’s your dream, kids]
  • Let go of your ego.
  • Take your time and think things through.
  • Marry someone like you.
  • Take the practical classes, don’t mess around with things like philosophy and stuff.
  • Force yourself to develop a positive attitude, your decisions affect your life.
  • It’s not all about you.

We all came back with a lot of laughs and a lot of good thoughts. We had fun! We hope you took something away from our little adventure. 🙂
