7 Successful Women Who Started on Campus

So often, when we talk about successful people, we forget to wonder what they were doing before anyone was paying attention to them. But as we all know, what you do in college greatly affects your development as a leader and individual.

So for Women’s History Month, I wanted to dig into what was going on with these successful women while they were on campus, being about as famous as you and I are right now.

Melinda Gates

Notable for: Co-chair of Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation

College: Duke University

On – campus involvement: She was a member of the Kappa Alpha Theta sorority, Beta Rho Chapter.

Hillary Clinton

Notable for: Politician, running for President in 2016

College: Wellesley College

On – campus involvement: She was president of College Government and, surprisingly, president of College Republicans (before re-aligning with the Democratic party).

On – campus involvement: She was a member of Tao Beta Pi.

On – campus involvement: Co-founded the group Women in Economics and Government.

Notable for: CEO at IBM

College: Northwestern University

On – campus involvement: President of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority.

Michelle Obama

Notable for: Former First Lady

College: Princeton University

On – campus involvement: She was involved in the Third World Center (now known as the Carl A. Fields Center), a group supporting minority students. She tutored and ran their day-care center.

Condoleezza Rice

Notable for: 66th Secretary of State

College: University of Denver

On – campus involvement: She was inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa Society, as well as being a member of Alpha Chi Omega, Gamma Delta chapter.
