That One Time BuzzFeed’s Opinion on College Made Me Angry

Buzzfeed

Hi friends! Sabina here, Community Manager of Swift Kick 🙂

A couple of months ago, Buzzfeed put up this post called 15 Things College Never Taught You About Life After Graduation.

Most of it is about how college doesn’t really teach you about paying taxes, how to cope with the real world, and other things that you just learn by being out of college. I was “meh” about most of these, because I figured things out as I went along after I graduated. Now students can learn how to cope with the real world by making more time for themselves, that’s easier to do for students now that they have the option to do less work thanks to being able to do such things like pay a custom essay writer to complete your work.

But then I got to #13. And I looked over at the wonderful Tom Krieglstein who was sitting next to me and exploded a little bit. (Sorry for taking it out on you, Tom.)

college

Oh, heck no. I just graduated in May. I am the epitome of “What is life.” So I know what I am talking about when I say that college was not, in any way, a waste of time.

Let’s talk about this.

In college, I learned a lot of things that helped me in the real world.

1. Going outside your comfort zone can be the best decision of your life.

I would never have been an Orientation Leader or an eboard member if I didn’t decide to do all the things that scared me. Let me tell you, I now define myself as those things. I literally identify as the things that I once thought I could never do. So feed those butterflies**.

2. You never know where you might fit in, so try new things.

Here’s a clip of Kobe Bryant dancing a Filipino dance. I myself joined a Filipino club in college and ended up being their VP. I am 100% Italian, and that never stopped me from believing they are my family.

3. When you find something you’re passionate about, you will become the best version of yourself.

College is a time to figure out what makes you off-the-wall crazy in a good way. What makes you give up hours of your life that other people think you are crazy for?

4. You get back what you give.

If you walk around campus with a smile on your face and a kind word for everyone, your campus is the most beautiful place on earth to you.

5. You can accomplish anything you need to, because you got through finals every year so far.

6. You’re going to find people you don’t get along with. You will find a way to work together anyway.

7. You learn to be grateful for each moment.

You only have 4 years of the college experience. If you’re smart, you’ll never take it for granted.

So, no, college was not a waste of time. If you work on becoming the best you and making the lives of the people around you better, you will be well equipped and confident in the real world.

Guess what, no one ever knows what they are doing with their life, no matter how long they have been in the “Real World.” That’s ok. Life is an adventure.

Your move, Buzzfeed.
