Warning: this post breaks the first rule of Fight Club. Apparently, so did some Emory University students when they came forward about some suspicious fraternity activity on their campus. Phi Delta Theta pledges were forced to eat unusual amounts of non-food items and sleep on the hard floor in the basement of the house in their boxers without bedding material and drink alcohol. Needless to say, school authorities were not pleased with this news and suspended the fraternity. Phi Delta Theta has accepted responsibility, but has filed an appeal.
This is certainly a case of student leadership gone wrong. It seems pretty hypocritical to build a “family” of brothers by putting pledges in physical danger. Good leaders look to inspire students and motivate them to get involved by building them up, not tearing them down. Not to mention, a student leader who leads to scandals for the university is certainly not good for their community.
