Photographer’s Project Forces Strangers to Get Close

Dance Floor Theory enthusiasts know that introductions are hugely important. DFT tips state that pointing out a common thread between people creates stronger connections between strangers, and then you should get out of the way. Photographer Richard Renaldi took this to a whole new level with his project, “Touching Strangers.” Renaldi finds two or more strangers, often of different racial and ethnic backgrounds, and asks them to pose in intimate poses, as if they knew each other. Much like the reactions to Free Hugs, some people are immediately comfortable and others feel awkward. But what an introduction this is! The common thread is the very strange experience that Renaldi gives them. Then he takes their picture and gets out of the way, leaving them to comment on the situation by themselves. A look at these pictures can make you marvel at the opportunities and connections we can all so easily make, walking down the street. It also makes you remember that everyone you couldn’t live without was once a stranger.

And you guessed it, that guy in the above picture is not the father in the family, but Renaldi makes us think he may as well be!
